As optical transmission networks expand to support longer distances and increasing data traffic, managing optical power loss becomes an important consideration in network design. Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs) provide optical amplification within the fiber transmission path, helping compensate for transmission losses and support optical signal delivery across network links.
Sharetop’s Rack-Mount EDFA is designed for optical communication applications, including DWDM transmission systems, metropolitan optical networks, and long-haul SDH networks. With C-band operation, configurable gain, multiple control modes, and network management support, it provides a practical amplification solution for optical transmission equipment deployments.
C-Band Optical Amplification
Operating across 1528–1564 nm, the amplifier is designed for C-band optical transmission applications, including DWDM networks.
Configurable Optical Gain and Output Power
The rated gain can be customized, with a stated gain adjustment range of ±3 dB. The typical saturated output power is 17 dBm, with other output power configurations available on request.
Multiple Operating Modes
AGC, APC, and ACC modes support different optical amplification control requirements. The default operating mode is AGC.
Optical Performance Monitoring
An integrated LCD displays operating parameters and equipment status. The unit also supports alarm functions and SNMP network management for monitoring and maintenance.
Rack-Mount Design
The compact 1U chassis measures 438 × 236 × 44 mm, excluding protruding mounting hardware. Dual power supply options are available, including AC 220 V and DC −48 V configurations, subject to the selected model.
In Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems, multiple optical channels share the same fiber infrastructure. Optical amplifiers can help compensate for fiber attenuation and maintain appropriate signal power levels along the transmission path. EDFA selection depends on channel loading, span loss, required output power, and the overall optical power budget.
Metropolitan networks interconnect data centers, service providers, and enterprise locations across a city or regional area. Depending on network architecture and link loss, an EDFA can be incorporated into the optical transmission path to support signal power management across fiber links.
In long-distance Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) networks, fiber attenuation must be considered when planning transmission spans. Optical amplification can help compensate for link loss, with amplifier placement and configuration determined by transmission distance, fiber characteristics, and system performance requirements.
